The Photobook Review: a publication for the Aperture Foundation. Creative direction by Emily Lessard.
In 2011, Aperture wanted to launch a new publication focused on photobooks. The challenge was budgetary: they wanted something that was affordable to produce but still spoke to a collector audience.
Build an identity inspired by the medium: newsprint. Printer mistakes were embraced and enhanced through overprinting and a strong CMYK palette.
The publication will celebrate its fifth year in fall 2016 (it continues to follow the same branding originally implemented), and now ships with Aperture magazine.
